Re: Hobbies
You're welcome Saw, it was a great game. Close all the way.
I bet he was upset. They haven't won a grand final in 40 + years. The Saint's supporters and players were crying. Most of them left when the siren blew.
Sorry he's so sad, I adore him........ but..
Wooohoooooooooo! Yay Cats! I'm still partying!!
He'd say the same to me if it were the other way around. lol

Re: Hobbies
Forgive my American ignorance... but...Footy?
Is this soccer in the rest of the world? Or Rugby? The field looked kind of strange to me on the picture, but maybe that was a sort of fish-eye lens effect...

Re: Hobbies
I do feel for him Tina, we lost last year and it feels horrible. Hope they get another go next year.
CoolAngel, No, it's not soccer, we have that too.
Footy is our own Aussie game - Australian rules or AFL.
Footy is short for football. It's played on a big oval field with an oval ball. The players can run with the ball and kick it and tackle other players. To score they kick goals worth 6 points or a single point can be kicked too. If you look at the pic below, you'll see the 4 white poles in the bottom corner. These are at either end. If the ball is kicked through the middle it's a goal. If it goes through the poles on either side it's a point.
There is a lot more to it, but thats the basic stuff.
It's different to rugby - though we have that too - 2 different kinds. But rugby is more a northern game. AFL is mostly Victorian, but most of the other states have teams now.

Re: Hobbies
Thank you, Star!!!!
Looks like a nice big field for all these burly handsome Aussie men to run around on and burn off all their energy!!
(I'm convinced that's why soccer is big here in the U.S. with parents of young kids, it tires them out to run after the ball for an hour!)

Re: Hobbies
Looks like they had a bit of bad luck yesterday -
"The most spectacular retirement came on lap 130, after eight hours, when a Subaru driven by rally champion Dean Herridge slammed into the back of the Lancer of actor Eric Bana, Tim Leahy and Peter Hill.
Neither Herridge nor Hill, who was driving the Mitsubishi, was injured. " motorsport.com

Yes, poor Eric... "Bana, in the pits at the time, was observed losing his composure as the disappointment of the situation reached him."
Bana´s exit breaks his heart.......

Re: Hobbies
Well, it's that time of year and Eric's Footy team St Kilda are in the Grand final again. This time, my team didn't make it *sob* we got knocked out at the preliminary final.
The Grand final was played today and Eric was there supporting the Saints. They trailed the Magpies for most of the game, then lead in the last quater. Then the magpies made another comeback. But incredibly in the end it was a DRAW! They have to play again next week. Amazing!
Eric Backs the Saints.
